Overview

Action Ability Belfast (formerly known as Action on Disability) seeks to promote the inclusion of people with learning, physical or sensory disability into the community through a community development and needs lead approach. Since 1998 the project has been to the forefront of developing high quality responsive services to meet the needs of local people with disabilities and their families. The project has been actively campaigning for the inclusion of disabled people within their own community and ensuring that they receive the support they need within ordinary structures of education, health, employment and social services etc. In addition, the project also offers a range of training to community organisations that help builds capacity and expertise; supports families of children with disabilities; provides information, advice sign posting and represents disabled persons on a number of fora and focus groups. Services currently delivered by AAB contribute to all four Neighbourhood Renewal strategic aims: community renewal, economic renewal, social renewal and physical renewal
