The Learner Access and Engagement Programme main aims are:
- To increase essential skills of local people through the building of skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT by establishing learning groups at a community level, involving grass roots organisations as referral agents/venues for delivery.
- Assist the ‘hardest to reach’ adults address their essential skills needs through a structured programme of assessment, planning, mentoring and education and training provision.
- To overcome multiple barriers to education, training, employment, self-esteem and skills levels, which may have resulted - directly or indirectly - from a lack of equality of opportunity or discrimination, ultimately resulting in marginalisation.
- To create an environment where local people have the skills and motivation to actively participate in the life of their community and wider society.
