Sure Start is the Government’s programme to deliver the best start in life for every child by bringing together early education, childcare, health and family support. The Department of Education is responsible for delivering Sure Start.

Sure Start programmes have been designed specifically to reflect and respond to local needs. For that reason, each Sure Start programme is unique in terms of the services it provides and the manner in which it provides them. There are, however, core elements which must feature in any Sure Start programme.

Programme for Two Year Olds
Each Sure Start project also provides a developmental programme for two-year-olds which has a focus on constructive play in groups. We currently have two programmes, one based in Whiterock Children’s Centre and the other in Newhill First Steps Childcare Centre. There are places for 12 children in each Programme.
Sure Start Daycare Money
Sure Start programmes in Northern Ireland have been given a limited amount of money to assist parents with the costs of childcare in regards to entering employment or increasing their future employment prospects by undertaking training or further education courses.
