Contact SureStart

Sure Start is the Government’s programme to deliver the best start in life for every child by bringing together early education, childcare, health and family support.  The Department of Education is responsible for delivering Sure Start.

Our Project covers the ward areas of :

  • Upper Springfield
  • Whiterock
  • Falls Park

If you have a child under four or if you are pregnant and you live in one of these ward areas you can register with us and receive our services free of charge.

Sure Start programmes have been designed specifically to reflect and respond to local needs. For that reason, each Sure Start programme is unique in terms of the services it provides and the manner in which it provides them.  There are, however, core elements which must feature in any Sure Start programme.

These core elements include:

  • Outreach and home visiting services
  • Family support
  • Good quality play, learning and childcare experiences
  • Primary and community healthcare and advice
  • Support for all children in the community, recognising their differing needs.

Some of the additional services which we provide include:

  • Parenting Programmes
  • Baby Massage
  • Parent and Toddler Groups
  • Cook It Programmes
  • “Shake, Rattle and Roll”
  • “A Walk in the Park” Group
  • Creche facilities
  • Fun Days and Trips
  • Call Line

Programme for Two Year Olds

Each Sure Start project also provides a developmental programme for two-year-olds which has a focus on constructive play in groups.  We currently have two programmes,  one based in Whiterock Children’s Centre and the other in Newhill First Steps Childcare Centre.  There are places for 12 children in each Programme.

Sure Start Daycare Money

Sure Start programmes in Northern Ireland have been given a limited amount of money to assist parents with the costs of childcare in regards to entering employment or increasing their future employment prospects by undertaking training or further education courses.

Our staff team is made up of:

  • Co-ordinator and Administrator
  • Family Support Workers
  • Father’s Support Worker
  • Ethnic Minority Worker
  • Midwife, Health Visitor and Speech & Language Therapist
  • Creche Staff
  • Programme for Two Year Olds Supervisor Staff
