Top of the Rock Healthy Living Centre as part of Upper Springfield Development Co Ltd has been providing services within the Upper Springfield/Whiterock Community since April 2003. Over a seven year period of work 03-10 the programme offered by the Healthy Living Centre provided services for approximately 60000 participants across all its programmes in the wider community.
The HLC offers a varied programme of activity to the community; these programmes began with the following core services Community Counselling, Sport and Physical Activity, Family Support (Finished Dec 09) and Complimentary Therapies.
As a result of the work undertaken by the HLC over the last five years we now deliver a wide and varied programme of activity, which includes the core areas identified above. The programme has also delivered a range of information sessions and programmes of activity around the following health promotion topics including smoking cessation, stress management, anger management, diet and nutrition, sexual health, drugs and alcohol, relationships and problem solving. A programme of support for adults with learning disabilities male and female has also been delivered on a yearly basis over the last three years As well as the above programme of activity involves work with the Travelling community and Men to look specifically at issues associated with men’s health.
The HLC is overseen by a steering group consisting of the following members, Upper Springfield Development Company Ltd, BHSCT, Holy Trinity Centre, Whiterock Children’s Centre, Centre Health and Well Being, Corpus Christi Services, Full Service Community Network and Belfast Community Sports Development Network. The role of the steering group is to oversee and support the work of the programme in delivering the Operational Plan.
The Healthy Living Centre in partnership with a range of other community, voluntary and statuory organisations seeks to deliver a programme of activity addressingthe mental, physical and social well being of people within the Upper Springfield/Whiterock Community.
Our objectives are directly linked into the objectives within Investing for Health and are as follows:
The success of the HLC has been very much supported by its ability to work in partnership with a range of community, voluntary and statutory organisations to deliver its programme of activity. We realise that we are not in a position individually to deliver the programme of activity in isolation. The success of the programme delivered over the last five years has been the result of working with partner organisations
It is important to note that while we work with a wide range of partners, the levels of work with each of these partners differs with each of them.
