USDT youth team hosts hurling 7’s

Upper Springfield Development Trust hosted hurling 7’s for the first time on Saturday 8th August.

Niall Enright, youth team co-ordinator commented on the competition.

“The hurling 7’s was organised as an unique approach to promoting participation of young people in local sporting activities. The competition was targeted at the u16 age group because this is an age when ‘drop out’ from sports is high at local level.”

The Belfast 7’s competition involved a cup and shield.

The cup was played at O Donnells GAA and the shield was played at Gort na Mona Phairc Mhí Ionnrachtaigh.

The cup involved Rossa Gorm, St Galls, Ballycran and Bredagh.

The shield involved Rossa Ban, Gort na Mona, Slaughteneil and Craobh Rua.

The cup and shield where won by Rossa Gorm and Rossa Ban respectively.

Ballycran were beaten in cup final and Sluaghtneil where beaten in Shield final, with both finals played at Phic Mhic Ionnrachtaigh.
